Barbara McClintock, Author
Pre K 3 through Fourth Grade were delighted with the visit from Barbara McClintock, author and illustrator on Tuesday, February 26. Students in these grades were introduced to her books during their library class. The fascinating tale of Adele and Simon became a quick favorite. We all joined in to search the intricate illustrations to find Simon's lost articles in the streets of Paris. Ms. McClintock shared with us the multiple copies of Adele and Simon that have been written in over 8 languages. She also gave us some exciting news...that Adele and Simon, Come to America will be on the bookshelves in the fall. In this new book there are hidden pictures of famous people and a brief history about each of them. Her research now is on China where Adele and Simon will visit Hong Kong, Bejingh and the Great Wall. One fact that the students thought was fascinating was that Ms. McClintock not only gets to work at home, but she also works in her pajamas!
Library Learning
Doing research and gathering facts in encyclopedia's, reference and non fiction books, almanacs and the computer on subjects like rocks, bears, weather and presidents all took place this past month in the library. Our younger students have also enjoyed checking out the non fiction books and gathering information on subjects that they enjoy. Our book adventures took us through the pages of One Hundred Days Plus One by Margraret McNamara, Who Wants Arthur? by Amanda Graham, A Fish Out of Water by Helen Palmer, Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato by Tomie DePaola, and The Luckiest Leprechaun by Justine Korman.
